The Ames LED Outdoor Step Light is a slim, square black wall light made to sit low on a stair wall, retaining wall or planter and wash light down onto the treads below. Its aluminium alloy face has a shallow hood across the top, so the 3W LED is hidden from view and the light falls downward through a glass shade instead of shining into your eyes. It measures 11.7cm (4.6in) square and only 2.5cm (1.0in) deep, and weighs about 0.25kg (0.55lb), so it sits almost flush against render, brick, sandstone or concrete. The warm white 3000K light, around 210 lumens per fitting, is just right for marking steps and paths after dark, adding a layer of safety for family and guests without lighting up the whole yard. An IP65 rating and an aluminium body that resists rust, fading and oxidation mean it copes with Australian rain, humidity and harsh sun. It is hardwired on 110-240V and should be installed by a licensed electrician. Care Instructions
Turn the power off at the mains and allow the light to cool before cleaning. Wipe the black aluminium alloy face with a soft cloth dampened with mild soapy water and dry it straight away; solvents, scouring pads and pressure washers will dull the finish and can force water past the seals. Clean the glass shade with a damp microfibre cloth or a little diluted glass cleaner, sprayed onto the cloth rather than the fitting. Because step lights sit low, brush off soil, mulch and garden spray splashes regularly, and keep hedges trimmed back so they do not trap moisture against the wall. Near the coast or a pool, rinse salt and chlorine residue off with fresh water every few weeks. Inspect the seals and wall fixings once a year, and leave any wiring work to a licensed electrician.
