Our latest collaboration with Three Birds Renovations features our Calor Soft Fabric Pendant Light in their stunning House 18 project, “Maison Soleil.”
Every so often a project comes along that feels like the right home for a piece.
When Three Birds Renovations took on House 18 — the home they've named Maison Soleil — they set out to turn what they called the worst house in the best street into something with real presence. The brief leaned French: Downton-era old-world glamour, softened and pulled into the present.

Episode two walks through the bones of the house — the façade, the entry and foyer, the study, and the main bedroom suite with its ensuite.
The foyer is the moment. Light-filled and generous, with a statement floor and a staircase that draws your eye up through the volume. Spaces like this are deceptively hard to light. Anything too small simply disappears; anything too rigid ends up arguing with the architecture.
Why a Soft Fabric Pendant Works Here
The Calor is built from soft, gathered fabric rather than glass or metal. Lit, it glows rather than glares — light diffuses through the weave and spills warm across the walls instead of throwing a hard pool downward.
That softness is the whole point. It lets the pendant sit comfortably beside ornate plasterwork, classic cornicing and period detailing without competing with any of it. Sculptural, but quiet.
In a double-height entry it does something else, too. It gives the volume a centre. A tall void without a pendant always feels slightly unfinished.
How to Get the Look
A fabric pendant like the Calor earns its place in:
- Entries and stairwells
- Above a dining table
- Bedrooms, centred over the bed
- Living rooms
- Landings and hallways with height to fill
Pair it with warm timber, natural stone, linen and lime-washed walls. Keep the palette narrow and let the texture do the work — the Calor belongs to the same family of materials as travertine, oak and unbleached linen, which is why it settles so easily into modern Australian, Scandinavian and coastal interiors.
For height, hang so the base of the pendant sits well clear of sightlines in a walkway, and lower over a table where you want intimacy.
Choosing Your Size
The Calor comes in 60 cm and 80 cm. The 60 cm suits standard ceilings, bedrooms and smaller entries. The 80 cm is the one for a double-height void, a large dining table or a room where the pendant is meant to be the first thing you notice.
