Hand washing is the best way to keep the Belmont glasses sparkling; dishwasher detergent and high heat slowly etch cut glass and leave a cloudy film in the grooves. Wash in warm, not hot, water with a mild dishwashing liquid, and use a soft brush to clean inside the twisted, fluted, starburst and diamond cuts where residue collects. Avoid steel wool and abrasive powders, which scratch the cut edges. The heavy bases hold heat and cold for a long time, so never move a glass straight from the freezer into hot water or pour boiling liquid into it, as the sudden change can crack the glass. Dry upside down on a rack, then polish with a lint-free microfibre or linen cloth while still warm to avoid water spots. Store the glasses upright side by side rather than stacked inside one another, which chips rims.
