The body is die-cast aluminium with tempered glass panels, a combination chosen for weight and weather rather than looks alone: cast aluminium will not rust the way steel does, and tempered glass survives the thermal shock of a cold night and a warm bulb. It reads as a traditional carriage lantern, with a peaked cap, a domed glass base and a turned finial, which is why it settles happily against weatherboard, brick or render without looking period-costume. Sealed to IP65, it takes an E26 or E27 LED rated to around 50,000 hours and lights roughly 5 to 16 square metres.
